ABOUT E.M.S.A.
-
We are a group of scooterists from around the East Midlands, some are in clubs and some are solo
riders coming together for the sole purpose of the enjoyment of scootering. Many are serious rally
going scooterists whilst others are more casual but still enjoy the social and casual approach that
scootering offers. After all, not everyone’s lifestyle allows them to partake as often as they would like.
-
The initial thought of organising an alliance was back 2005, not sure how it would go down we
organised a ride out to meet up with the Lancashire alliance who had organised an event at Buxton on
the Lancs. Derbyshire border. The turn out was pretty good with around 50 scooters mainly from the
Nottingham area taking part, not bad to say it clashed with another event in Nott’s on the same day.
None the less it was deemed a success.
-
With life throwing in its usual proverbial spanner it wasn’t until the beginning of July 2006 that four
friends and long standing scooter enthusiast finally got their heads together over a few beers as well
as their acts at Andy Quails abode.
-
That inaugural meeting consisted of the host Andy quail himself, Tommy Barrett, Andy Butler and my
good self Jeff Johnson with the sole purpose of setting a meeting place for a number ones meeting
and to set the date for the first ride out.
-
With both objectives duly covered the East Midlands Scooter Alliance officially took to the open road.

-

The East Midland Scooter Alliance covers the shires of Northampton, Rutland, Leicester, Derby,
Nottingham and Lincoln.

After a few changes during 2007 the committee as of January 2008 now consists of
Jeff Johnson, Andy Quail, Andy Butler, Russ Machin, Paul Becket and Stewart Offiler.

Although the committee has changed slightly the aims of EMSA are still the same, which is
quite simply to promote scootering in the East Midlands and hopefully make a few quid for
charity along the way!

The official EMSA launch was on Sunday 30th July 2006 at Skegby SC BBQ and it was very well
attended with clubs and solo riders arriving from all over the East Midlands and were all very
supportive of what we are trying to achieve. Several points were discussed and were implemented
as soon as was possible including, club membership, calendar of events, and a ride out for
September. For a club to be recognised as an affiliated club it must have at least 50% of its
members in the Alliance to receive backing from the Alliance in promoting their club events. A
meeting was to be set up for members in January and would become the official AGM for each
subsequent year thereafter. Matlock Bath was as the destination of the ride out for September by the
96 members that signed up to the Alliance on the day. Later The ride out adopted the jovial name of
“Beat the Bikers” which simply means if you don’t get to Matlock early enough all the bikers will have
all the parking spaces and it has now evolved into a charity event that includes a few bikers.
